Golden Cadillac with White Walled Tires

Image
Supposedly named for the owner's car at a BBQ joint in El Dorado California, I get to use the KFC of liqueurs (Galliano and its 30 herbs and spices) and adding some Godiva which apparently gives the Golden Cadillac its trademark treads.  We get the Golden Cadillac with White Walled tires.  Not horrible, nothing I would spend good money on at a bar.  A decent way to use up Galliano.  A waste of vanilla vodka.  So basically a recipe that said I tried it.  It stayed down.  But really nothing special.   Another rather boring drink.  Thank goodness I had all of the ingredients at home and didn't spend extra today (except for the white creme d'cocoa which I use anyway) THEME SONG of 9/30/19 I know it is the best of Samhein music... But I still default to Sherlock Holmes radio shows when I hear this

Grandma has a lot of free time on her hands

Image
Didn't get to this one until late.  Hospitals taking advantage of the call system has  had my attention split 5 different ways while my partner is away.  But I needed some stress relief, and this looks like it should be good as a make-ahead recipe anyways. GRANDMA's POTATO SALAD or GRANDMA HAS WAY TO MUCH FREE TIME ON HER HANDS or I GAVE UP AN HOUR OF EARLY MORNING SLEEP FOR THIS? or  THE NEEDLESSLY COMPLICATED POTATO SALAD RECIPE  When, dear grandma, does anyone, when making potato salad, of all things need to know how to make: A vinegar custard AND a extremely tiny amount of whipped cream mousse Which then results in the most tasteless batch of potato salad I have ever had not purchased in a grocery store.   But everyone knows, Potato salad is better the next day after sitting.  So after my 2 bites of paprika and mush, I sat it back in the fridge until morning.  Gotta at least try...

Hey look, I made an actual pie

Image
Guess the one thing I make less often than bread! Today after doing this off and on for about a year, I got my first PIE recipe.  Yeah Me.  That nasty soggy burnt lettuce tart thing does not count. The next fun part?  Brandy said she needs a beer, and we are going out.  After I started making my apples naked So tonight's experiement?  How to get a Caramel Apple Pie out of the oven in 150 minutes. Step 1.  Dirty more dishes.  Break out the potato peeler, the paring knife just ain't doing it fast enough. Step 2.  Listen to the voices in your head. I do not remember cooking pies with any of my grandmothers.  So why do I hear Grandma A's voice telling me in Grandma Esther's kitchen, that you need 10 apples, unless they are Grandma Vi's green apples, then you only need 3 and a half. So this is what 10 naked and sliced apples look like.  I do not have grandma Vi's monster greenies Now cooked At this point, I invented...

Dang it Grandma!

First of all...  Banana Oat Bread It is another bleeping bread recipe.  A banana bread with yeast.  Whole makes a yeasted banana bread recipe?  Really?  Apparently this is thing.  There goes my evening.  Probably. But here I go. Can you buy just 1 banana?  That is all I need.  Just one.  Is there some rule you have to buy a bunch?  Can I just steal one from the kiddie basket and adopt a rugrat from the aisles?  Turns out I am too chicken to try...  So I have bananas for impromptu blender experiments at 6 in the morning Second this is a recipe written by someone's grandma who thinks I know what I am doing.  I love bread.  I love different types of bread.  There is a reason that I buy bread instead of making it.  Too many things that can go wrong. Literally here are the directions that grandma gives me. 1. Blend wet ingredients. (Is a banana a wet or dry ingredient?  I am guessing wet...

Loco Lemonade

Image
So not so much to write about today' experiment.  Apparently you can put tequila in any drink and call it "loco" Let us just say, this drink did not make the top 10 of "Loco" just today. Grown adults triggered over a 16 year girl's comments, broken to a state where their best defense is bullying said child. Other grown adults finally deciding today was the last straw and attempting to start to look to see if maybe we should possibly try to fix the incompetence that has infected our leadership.  I would have more faith but it is also their own incompetence that is the problem.  I certainly hope something is determined to make this circus worthwhile and a decision is finally made one way or another. Idiots abound... and we have to share this rock with them - so.... Here is the fittingly uninspired "Loco Lemonade" and my THEME SONG of 9/24/19 from Green Day and hoping for a better tomorrow.

Shackleton's buried treasure

Image
The roulette gawds were good to me, and gave me a drink on this have to work on my day off Monday. Introducing the Scotch Explorer Other than maybe gin, I hate shopping for scotch the most.  There is too much variation in flavor, a nd I do not have the desire or money to try them all.  Definitely do not have the money to just buy the  good stuff for a random mixed drink.  No way am I blowing $15 a shot on a $400 bottle of scotch for a random drink from McDuff knows where.  Everything else is a crap shoot on whether you get more flavor from the moor peat or the reindeer poop.  And forget bottom shelf, 1800 wood lacquer has got to taste better. This recipe is easy though.  Doing research on this drink, I was introduced to Sir Ernst Shackleton.  An antarctic explorer who is apparently more famous for 3 cases of  Mackinlay's scotch left behind on the Antarctic subcontinent, than actually successful missions.  I understand, who ...

Reputation saved by Bruce Williams

Image
I am still not completely over yesterday's disaster.  So in otherwords it was kind of a success. I has no fewer than 3 people who know their way around a cookbook tell me lettuce should not be baked.  I whole-heartedly agree. So by the saving grace of St. Bruce Williams and destiny, today's random recipe looks to redeem itself.  (It is a South Dakota thing.  You will be educated) I mean 3 sticks of butter cannot be wrong.  And yes there is sour cream... but sour cream and cocoa are kind of a thing with me lately,  It is all good. Did you know a jumbo muffin pan holds a cup of fluid each cup?  I do now. He was eating Twinkies as he drove along the highway... Man I am a messy baker... I am going to be pulling cocoa powder out of cracks I didn't know existed.  What is with the clouding by the way.  Is there a form of coal miner's black lung with bakers using cocoa... Jeez Listening to the DJ play Merle Haggard and his b...

Okay.  Enough playing.  Let us see what actually can be put into a blog Well for what everyone is actually waiting for.  Let's go on to the newest episode of WHAT THE BLEEP DID DEAN JUST EAT? My family's 2 week reprieve of my experimentation is over.  Sophie is returning to Germany, and I can fail miserably again in the kitchen. I have been sitting on this recipe for 10 days.  My stomach has been churning appropriately. Ladies and Gentlemen let me present: Lettuce Pea and Onion Tart They left me alone. Brandy is out playing with string. Aiden is slinging ribs. I am alone, and I bought groceries.  This may be as gloriously bad as I expect, So let us start with the mise en place.   Pay no attention to the long pastry in the plastic wrap.  I am certain this is a joke.  Obviously, this is a salad.  Any fool can make this.  But... the word tart is in the title Now the inner monologue is kicki...

Day 3... I am still here.  Nobody knows.  Obviously nobody has read anything.  Still trying to see how much to bite off So now to the 13 things I think I think I thought to think (well 2 of 13 today at least) #13  THEME SONG of 9/18/19 A cover of a Ben Vaughn Quintet song.  The original is good, I think I like Palmyra's better but who doesn't like lyrics like: " Play that one about the monkey just one more time I can't understand a word   But it sure makes me feel so fine" #12  The Asylum Project For Wednesday's my challenge involves the R in the MASTER program.  Reporting. I do not know why I am doing this again. Yes I do.  I got to get things out of my brain.  I need to think things through visually.  I apparently need to learn to type on this keyboard again. I am giving my self 2 weeks to practice to see if I like.  To see if I can still figure this out.  To see if this helps empty the head. Probably not, but I will give it 2 weeks. So now lets add a picture That was fun, but why only these pics.  Will have to figure that out Try something new www.cnn.com OK that was easy... what else is there Perfect now what is this⟴ meh...
